A

Anodized Aluminum
-Is an electrolytic process applied to a mill finished aluminium substrait to increase corrosion and wear resistance. This process also allow certain colors to be applied.
Apron
-A 2 piece metal assembly that clamps around the top of a door and attaches to a roller for sliding doors. Usually used for sliding wood door applications. Fasteners are bolted through the plates and through the face of a door.

 

B

Bi-parting
-A double door having two leaves (one on each side of the center line of the door) which slide in the same plane and meet at the center line. Two sliding doors on the same plane covering a single opening. When closed the doors meet in the middle of the opening. When opened they side away from each other in opposite directions.
Bi-Folding
-Otherwise known as slide-folding doors. Consists of two door panels that are hinged together. As the door slides to open, the panels fold up and stack against the wall. Two panels slide and fold one direction while two other panels slide and fold the other direction.
Bowing
-When there is a curve along the face of a board from end to end.

 

C

Center Bracket
-Sidewall mounted center bracket. It is a required element for box track style hardware. It acts as an attachment point for the track to the building and also gives the track it's strength preventing the track from spreading apart.
Crook
-Warping along the edge of wood from one end to another.
Cupping
-Warping along the face of a board from edge to edge. One reason is a result of one face of the plank drying faster than another. Horizontal door planking will increase the effects of cupping. Wood tends to cup towards sun and heat.

F

Flush Pull
-A style of handle that mortises into the door face. Used for sliding applications where a door has to pass by another door or in front of a wall and due to interference reasons can not have a handle that protrudes off the door face.

Infill Paneling
-Wood paneling that is within the rails and stiles of a wood door.Description

Mullion
-Members (intermediate rails) that separate large sections of glass.
Muntin
-Framing that separates the individual panes of glass. *see mullion

P

Pendant
-A threaded rod or bolt that acts as the connection between box track style rollers/trucks and a sliding door. Can be attached to a top plate, the door itself, or an apron assembly.
Planton
-A strip of wood that is glued and/or screwed to the face of wood door panel.
PV Bearing Rating
-The highest combination of load and speed under which the bearing can operately properly. Defines the performance capabilities of a bearing as expressed as pressure and velocity.

T

Tongue & Groove (T&G)
-A type of joint between two wood planking in which adjacent boards are joined by the means of interlocking ridges and grooves down their ends.
Twist
-When lumber twists in the opposite directions at the end.

V

Veneer Face
-A thin decorative covering of fine wood applied to a coarser wood or other core material.
V-Groove
-A routed groove in a wood face to give the appearance of planking. Typically 1/4" x 1/8".
