By-passing or Parrallel Sliding

A double sliding door. A pair of sliding doors which can pass each other, each on its own track.

Standard Bi-passing two door application.

Note: In the full closed position the doors overlap in the middle. This is where the by-passing floor guide should be mounted to guide the bottom of the doors.

Bi-passing three door two tracks application.

The two outer doors slide in one track, while the middle door slides on its own track. A continuous bottom guide is recommended to guide the bottom of all three doors.

Bi-passing three door three track application.

Each door slides on its own track. A continuous bottom guide is recommended to guide the bottom of all three doors.

Hardware Options

Box Track

Box track is a top hung system, where the track is mounted over an opening. Door panels are outfitted with hanger assemblies that ride in the enclosed track. The track is attached to the building by brackets. These brackets give the track stability and strength and prevent the enclosed track from opening up over time. The weight of the door is supported only by the track system. A bottom guide/roller is used to stabilize the bottom of the door.

Cleaner Operation: The enclosed box track hardware is typically categorized as your standard barn door hardware. This style of an enclosed track offers a cleaner operation by shielding the track and trolleys from dust and dirt.

Track is available in stock lengths.

Adjustability:  The hanger assemblies (rollers) that attach to the door and ride in the track, offers adjustability to accomodate various door thicknesses. The hanger assembly also allows for limited up/down adjustability for the door, making installation easier.

Door Weight Capacity:  The enclosed box track design offers increased regidity to the track allowing this type of sliding door hardware to accomodate heavier doors. Modern day enclosed track feature the following capacities:

  • Light duty: 200-400 lb. capacity.
  • Medium duty: 600-800 lb. capacity.
  • Extra Heavy Duty: up to 5,000 lb. capacity

Bottom Rolling Top Guided

Only one pair of bottom roller wheels are required per gate or door.

Bottom rollers are built into the frame of the door or gate and are designed to carry the entire weight of the door rolling on floor track.  A top guide system is used to prevent the door from tipping over at the top.

Used for the following applications:

  • The wall or ceiling is not strong enough to support the weight of the door.
  • There is a limited amount of room for hardware at the top of the door.
  • A header does not exist accross the top of the opening.  Typically true for sliding gate applications.
  • Bottom rolling hardware can support much heavier doors than overhead style box and flat track hardware.  Up to 128,000 lb capacity.
