Series CBW

SERIES CBW PRECISION ENGINEERED HIGH CAPACITY HINGES FULL SURFACE ADJUSTABLE HINGES LEFT OR RIGHT HAND

For use on lead filled radiation doors, vault doors and heavy architectural gates. Also any door application where the hinges will be subjected to severe loads from a blast pressure, seismic event, or high wind velocities.

The barrel and leaf sections of the hinge are fabricated from 1018 cold rolled steel and joined with welds of X-ray quality. The Series CBW hinges are precision machined components which feature anti-friction needle roller bearings supporting the thrust and radial loads. A non-removable alloy steel hinge pin is hardened, precision ground and Armoloy® coated for corrosion protection. Oil seals are provided to protect the hinge internals in more severe environments. The results: a maintenance free, reliable hinge that will allow doors weighing several thousand pounds to be operated by the touch of a finger.

The Series CBW offers (+/- 1/8") adjustment in the thrust direction which means doors can be adjusted within their frames after installation. Since the thrust load can be distributed with the adjusting screw, located at the top of the hinge, optimization of load-life on bearings is also possible. We recommend the load be removed from the hinges prior to adjustment.

When ordering: specify with or without mounting holes and left or right hand. Series CBW hinges can also be supplied with the following modifications: Custom mounting hole layouts, shorter or longer hinge leaf, and custom offsets.

Series CBW hinges will function at the rated capacities providing the following specifications is met:

  1. The hinges are installed without inducing "hinge bind".
  2. A minimum of 2 hinges (1 pair) are used per door.
  3. Door weight or thrust load shall never exceed the thrust capacity of one hinge.
  4. Compliance with bolting specification.
  5. Minimum thread engagement into reinforcing member shall be equal to bolt diameter.
  6. For weld on applications, the minimum fillet weld size shall be as shown below and be full length on (3) sides of each leaf:

    1/4" Fillet weld on CBW500HD-CBW100HD

    1/2" Fillet weld on CBW125HD-CBW200HD

Weld interpass temperature at the hinge barrel shall not exceed 225ºF.
  7. For certain high frequency applications, adequate load distribution between hinges maybe necessary to obtain the highest margin of safety with respect to load-life on bearings.
  8. Maximum (+) adjustment is 1/8" over nominal.
During installation, we recommend pre-loading the hinges to remove any clearances that may develop from a tolerance "stack-up".
